The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has blamed President Bola Tinubu’s recent political remarks for comments attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said Fadahunsi might have interpreted Tinubu’s statement that “all is fair in politics” as approval for political actors to do whatever it takes to win elections.

Fadahunsi was on Wednesday questioned by the Osun State Police Command over his remarks at an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Ilesa, which were interpreted as a call for supporters to attack members of the Accord Party.

Speaking on Arise News, Abdullahi said political statements by leaders could influence how their followers understood the limits of acceptable behaviour during elections.

Tinubu made the “all is fair in politics” remark on July 28 while receiving the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Abdullahi expressed confidence that the ADC would win Saturday’s election if the poll is free and fair.

He also criticised the deployment of heavily armed security personnel to the state, describing it as ‘militarisation’ of Osun’s political space.
