Chelsea have completed the signing of England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a deal reportedly worth £117 million, making him the most expensive British player in football history.
The 23-year-old attacker signed a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033 after successfully completing his medicals.
The transfer surpasses the previous British record set earlier this month when Manchester City signed Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116 million.
It also makes Rogers Chelsea’s most expensive acquisition, overtaking the £107 million the club paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez in 2023.
Speaking after the move, Rogers expressed excitement about joining the London club, describing Chelsea as a team he had admired since childhood.
He also said he was attracted by the club’s long-term plans, the quality of the squad and the vision of new manager Xabi Alonso.
Chelsea had reportedly monitored Rogers for two years and eventually secured his signature ahead of Arsenal, who were unwilling to meet Aston Villa’s valuation.
His departure adds to Villa’s recent transfer setbacks following the exits of key players and expected departures from the squad.
Rogers leaves Villa after scoring 21 league goals in 85 appearances and playing a major role in the club’s Europa League triumph last season.
He is expected to join his new teammates after a short break following England’s run to the semifinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
