The Majority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Saleh Hodi Jibir, has resigned his membership of the legislature to pursue his ambition of becoming chairman of Shira Local Government Council.
Jibir, who represents the Disina Constituency in the Assembly, reportedly tendered his resignation as he prepares to participate in the forthcoming local government election in the state.
He served as Majority Leader of the 10th Bauchi State House of Assembly and has been involved in the consideration of several major legislative matters.
As Majority Leader, Jibir has played a prominent role in presenting executive communications and leading debates on bills before the House.
SkylineTV News reports that the move highlights the growing importance of local government politics in Bauchi, where control of the councils remains central to grassroots mobilisation, development and political organisation.
The election has been scheduled for Monday, August 17.
