The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has deployed 10,210 personnel and specialised tactical units to Osun State ahead of the governorship election.
The Commandant General of the corps, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, ordered the deployment to reinforce security across the state and ensure the safety of voters, electoral officials, observers, journalists and residents.
The personnel are drawn from 10 neighbouring state commands, including Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Edo, Kogi, Delta and the Federal Capital Territory.
The corps also deployed its Special Intelligence Squad, SWAT, Female Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Strike Force, Crack Squad and K9 Unit to support intelligence gathering, crime prevention, crowd control and protection of critical assets.
The NSCDC said senior officers, led by the Deputy Commandant General in charge of Operations, DCG Ayuba Phillip, would relocate to Osun to coordinate the election security operations.
Audi urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to maintain peace, warning that political thugs and others seeking to disrupt the exercise would face the law.
He also assured residents that NSCDC personnel had been directed to remain professional, neutral and respectful of citizens’ rights throughout the electoral process.
