Suspected bandits attacked Shuwaki community in Jargaba Ward, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State on Saturday night.
The assailants killed one resident and abducted dozens of residents, mostly women, according to Daily Trust.
The attackers reportedly spent several hours in the village, firing indiscriminately, looting homes, rustling livestock, and stealing food and other valuables.
According to residents, the victims were gathered at the village center before being marched into the bush.
Community members said they made repeated distress calls during the attack, but security forces were unable to respond promptly due to fears of an ambush.
The incident has heightened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in northern Bakori, where repeated attacks have forced many residents to abandon their homes despite an earlier peace agreement with some armed groups.
The attack occurred just days after another bandit assault on nearby Guga community, where members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and the Community Watch Corps were killed.
Residents are calling for stronger security measures, including increased patrols, improved intelligence gathering, better coordination among security agencies, and faster emergency response in the area.
They also urged the Katsina State Government and the Federal Government to prioritize the safe rescue of the abducted victims and strengthen protection for vulnerable rural communities.
The Katsina State Police Command said it is verifying the report and will provide details after completing its investigation.
