President Bola Tinubu has defended his administration’s economic reforms, saying Nigeria is on course to build a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2030. The President said the reforms are beginning to create the foundation for stronger and more sustainable economic growth.
Tinubu’s position comes amid renewed debate over the impact of his policies, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy and the government’s broader economic restructuring. The administration maintains that the measures were necessary to correct long-standing weaknesses in the economy.
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, however, continues to criticise the administration’s economic direction and has proposed alternative policies ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The political disagreement is increasingly putting economic policy at the centre of the emerging campaign.
