The World Bank has approved a fresh $1.25 billion package to support Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. This critical funding aims to boost job creation, improve the investment climate, and ensure fiscal stability amid lingering challenges from inflation and currency fluctuations.

The disbursement will specifically target key sectors, including power, agriculture, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Recent data shows cautious optimism, with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) reporting improved forex liquidity and the naira showing signs of stability in the parallel market. The gradual ramp-up of the Dangote Refinery is also expected to contribute positively to the national economy.

However, challenges remain, as the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) recently lost significant value due to profit-taking and FX pressures. Experts are urging the government to sustain reforms in power supply and the ease of doing business, warning that with oil windfalls having an expiry date, diversification into tech, agriculture, and renewables remains absolutely critical.
