The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has resigned following moves by some fellow lawmakers to impeach him.
His media aide, Ivy Adodo-Ebojele, confirmed the development on Facebook Monday morning. She said further details on the speaker’s resignation would be made available later.
Skyline News reports that Agbebaku became Speaker of the 8th Assembly in June 2023 and has since played a significant role in the political developments within the House.
In 2025, the Speaker defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC)
His resignation comes at a crucial time as political activities and alliances begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections.
