The Jigawa State House of Assembly has introduced the 2026 Budget Review and Proposed Supplementary Appropriation Bill of N46.3 billion for first reading.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, made this known during Wednesday’s plenary after presenting a communication from Governor Umar Namadi seeking the lawmakers’ consideration of the proposed supplementary budget.
According to the Speaker, the N46.3 billion supplementary appropriation is aimed at reinforcing the administration’s commitment to prudent, accountable and transparent management of the state’s financial resources.
He explained that the budget review was also designed to direct available funds towards programmes and projects that would contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development and overall welfare of residents of Jigawa State.
Following the governor’s request, the Majority Leader of the House, Lawan Muhammad Dansure, moved a motion for the bill to receive its first reading.
The motion was supported by the lawmaker representing Kiyawa Constituency, Yahaya Muhammad Andaza, after which the proposed legislation was formally read for the first time.
The House later adjourned its sitting until Thursday, September 24, 2026.
The supplementary appropriation proposal followed the approval by the Jigawa State Executive Council for a review of the 2026 Appropriation Law and the introduction of an additional budget, increasing the state’s total expenditure plan by N46.369 billion.
If approved by the lawmakers and signed into law, the review would increase Jigawa State’s 2026 budget from the initial N901.8 billion to about N948.2 billion.
