The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the August 15 Osun governorship election, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro, has withdrawn from the race and endorsed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji.
Adeyemi-Doro announced his decision on Saturday during the Osun Youth Interactive Session with Oyebamiji in Osogbo. He said the decision followed consultations with APGA leaders and members across the state, which resulted in an alignment with the APC.
The APGA candidate said he had assessed the candidates and believed that supporting Oyebamiji was in line with the progressive agenda of both parties. He called on his supporters to back the APC candidate in the election.
Responding, Oyebamiji thanked Adeyemi-Doro for the endorsement and pledged to work with him and his supporters. He also expressed his intention to engage other political parties and seek their support ahead of the poll.
The APC campaign council said the youth engagement provided an opportunity for young people and students to question Oyebamiji on issues including education, employment, entrepreneurship and community development.
Fourteen political parties have been cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to participate in the poll, in which the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking a re-election.
