The Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has announced Ibrahim Muhammad Augie as the new running mate to Governor Nasir Idris for the 2027 governorship election.
The announcement was made on Sunday at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi by the APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Muhammad Argungu.
Argungu said the decision followed legal advice on the eligibility of the incumbent Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida Arugungu, to contest as Idris’ running mate in the 2027 election.
He said Tafida was dropped after the party received professional legal advice but stressed that the decision was reached with the deputy governor’s understanding and consent.
Argungu also dismissed suggestions of a disagreement between Governor Idris and his deputy, urging APC members and supporters to accept the change and remain united ahead of the 2027 election.
Governor Idris also denied any rift with his deputy, assuring party members that he would work with Augie as his new running mate.
He called on APC supporters to remain focused on the development of the state and the party’s success in the 2027 election.
Augie, a former Commissioner for Finance in Kebbi State under former Governor Atiku Bagudu, is from Augie Local Government Area of the state.
The governor also thanked the people of the Argungu Emirate for their continued support for his administration.
