Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for 2027 poll, Peter Obi, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, saying the election demonstrated the power of citizens to determine their leaders through the ballot.
Obi, in a statement posted on his X handle on Sunday, commended voters in the state, particularly youths, for what he described as their vigilance and determination to protect their votes.
He said the people of Osun had spoken clearly by renewing Adeleke’s mandate.
Obi attributed Adeleke’s re-election to the governor’s commitment to the people, concern for their welfare and achievements in office.
He also praised youths in the state for peacefully defending their mandate.
According to Obi, the outcome of the election showed that democracy is stronger when citizens remain alert and actively participate in the electoral process.
He urged Nigerians to draw lessons from the Osun election ahead of the 2027 polls by participating actively and protecting their votes.
Obi said Nigerians facing hunger, insecurity, deprivation and economic hardship had the power to influence change through their votes.
The former presidential candidate also called on political actors to put the interests of Nigerians above partisan considerations and promote peace, unity and the rule of law.
He said elections should be contests based on ideas, competence, character and service rather than violence.
Obi expressed hope that the Osun election would strengthen public confidence in democracy and encourage Nigerians to remain committed to building a just, secure and prosperous country.
