President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded Team Nigeria following an impressive outing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, describing the contingent as a true representation of the nation’s resilient spirit.
In an official statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president lauded the contingent for competing with distinction and lifting the image of the country on the global stage.
The Nigerian delegation concluded their campaign in Glasgow with a total tally of 24 medals, comprising 10 gold, seven silver, and seven bronze.
Tinubu emphasized that the medals secured in Scotland are a direct result of relentless work, discipline, and endurance.
He noted that the valuable experience gathered by the athletes during the tournament will serve as a springboard for future international competitions while encouraging the youth across the country to embrace national service.
“Whether on the podium or through courageous performances in the competition, every member of Team Nigeria has represented our nation with honour, dignity, and pride,” the president said.
The Nigerian leader extended his gratitude to the entire support system behind the contingent, acknowledging the leadership of both the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the National Sports Commission.
He singled out coaches, medical staff, administrative officials, and technical crews for their sacrifices throughout the games.
Reaffirming his commitment to sports growth in Nigeria, Tinubu promised that his administration would maintain active investment in modern training facilities, institutional reforms, and athlete development programmes to ensure continued success in future sporting events.
