The daughters of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have appealed for urgent medical help for their father, who is battling stage-four cancer.
The actor’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, made separate emotional appeals on social media, saying their father’s condition had deteriorated and calling on medical professionals and members of the public to help them find appropriate treatment.
In a video shared on Instagram, Lima said hospitals had refused to continue treating her father.
She appealed to Nigerians and medical professionals who might know a hospital or specialist willing to take on the actor’s case.
Kira, in another video, disclosed that her father had been diagnosed with stage-four cancer and said doctors had told the family that chemotherapy could no longer be continued.
The daughters stressed that they were not seeking financial donations but medical assistance and credible information on treatment options that could help their father.
However, medical doctor Olusina Ajidahun has cautioned against interpreting the doctors’ decision as a refusal to treat the actor.
Ajidahun, who said he has no connection with Ogogo’s medical care, described the statement that “they don’t want to treat my father” as potentially dangerous because it could create the impression that healthcare workers were deliberately abandoning the actor.
According to him, patients with stage-four cancer may be moved to palliative care when chemotherapy and other treatments are no longer considered effective.
He explained that palliative care is aimed at managing symptoms and improving a patient’s quality of life, rather than curing an advanced or terminal disease.
Ajidahun also cautioned the family against seeking herbal remedies for stage-four cancer, warning that unverified concoctions could damage other organs and cause additional complications.
He urged the family to work closely with the medical team managing Ogogo’s condition and wished the actor well.
Ogogo, 66, is a veteran Yoruba actor whose career in the Nigerian film industry spans more than four decades. He has featured in hundreds of films and remains one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language cinema.
The actor’s daughters’ appeal has since attracted support from colleagues and members of the public, with actor Femi Adebayo also calling for medical professionals and specialists who can assist with Ogogo’s care.
