Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar, has urged President Bola Tinubu to focus on addressing Nigeria’s challenges rather than engaging in political rhetoric ahead of coming polls.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Abubakar was reacting to Tinubu’s remark that he was prepared to ‘wrestle’ his opponents and retain his seat after the poll as Nigeria’s president.
Abubakar said Tinubu should channel his energy toward tackling inflation, hunger, insecurity, unemployment and other challenges facing the nation.
According to him, the administration is facing widespread disaffection from Nigerians due to the rising cost of living, declining investor confidence and worsening insecurity.
He argued that fighting opponents would not solve the problems confronting Nigerians or improve their standard of living.
The former vice president maintained that the president’s greatest challenge was not the opposition but the performance of his administration, adding that the 2027 election would give Nigerians the opportunity to assess the government’s record and make their decision through the ballot box.
He also urged Tinubu to dedicate the remainder of his tenure to delivering measurable results, stressing that leadership should be defined by good governance, accountability and improved living conditions rather than political confrontations.
