Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to step aside, arguing that the president no longer has the capacity to lead the country effectively.
Obi made the call during an interview on Channels Television’s *Sunday Politics*, where he maintained that Tinubu should not seek re-election in 2027.
The former Anambra State governor said the president lacked the energy and commitment needed to tackle Nigeria’s challenges, adding that the Tinubu who governed Lagos State had been different from the one leading Nigeria.
Obi argued that the country was not moving in the right direction under Tinubu and insisted that the president should retire from active politics.
He maintained that Nigeria required leadership with the vision and capacity to address the nation’s pressing economic and security challenges.
Skyline News reports that while Tinubu is seeking re-election for the second and final term in 2027, with Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate, Obi, who.contested against him in 2023, is vying again for the office, with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is also seeking the Presidency through his party – the African Democratic Congress (ADC)
