Suspected armed hoodlums have attacked a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) distribution centre in Okuku, Odo Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, making away with several packs of voter cards.
The incident occurred on Sunday at Oyinlola DC Primary School, where officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were distributing PVCs to registered voters.
An eyewitness said the attackers, believed to be about eight in number, fired shots into the air, causing panic and forcing residents and electoral officials to flee before carting away the voter cards.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the attack, stating that about 10 armed thugs invaded the distribution centre and stole three packs of PVCs.
Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, had ordered a full-scale investigation to identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible.
He added that tactical and intelligence teams had been deployed to recover the stolen PVCs and apprehend the suspects.
The command urged residents to remain calm and law abiding, while appealing to the public with useful information on the incident to report to the nearest police station or contact the command through its emergency lines.
