Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve to end banditry and other forms of criminality across the country, assuring residents of Zamfara State and other affected communities of the government’s continued efforts to restore security.
Matawalle made the commitment in Kaduna at the weekend during an interactive session with former members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, former commissioners and special advisers, as well as other political associates, particularly those who served in his administration between 2019 and 2023.
The meeting provided a platform for participants to discuss several key issues, including the security situation, political activities and recent developments in Zamfara State.
Speaking at the gathering, the minister stressed that safeguarding the lives and property of citizens remained the primary duty of any responsible government.
According to him, this informed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed efforts to strengthen peace, unity and political cohesion across the country.
Matawalle said the President remained committed to addressing insecurity, promoting economic development and sustaining peace and national unity, irrespective of ongoing political activities and challenges.
“Security of lives and property is the major concern of every serious government in any country. That is why the APC-led administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has focused strongly on securing the nation”. Matawalle maintained.
He said the President’s dedication to tackling insecurity had been demonstrated through his regular meetings and consultations on security issues, both within Nigeria and internationally.
Matawalle also called on the participants to mobilise support for the Tinubu Again Movement, urging them to engage communities across Zamfara State and other areas in support of President Tinubu’s bid for another term in 2027.
Earlier, leaders of the groups represented at the meeting praised Matawalle for sustaining what they described as a strong political structure since his tenure as Governor of Zamfara State from 2019 to 2023.
They observed that despite his present role at the federal level as a member of the Federal Executive Council, Matawalle had retained the loyalty and backing of a considerable number of supporters across Zamfara State.
The leaders pledged their full support and loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed efforts, noting that the success of the President would equally benefit them.
They also expressed their willingness to promote President Tinubu’s candidacy and highlight Matawalle’s leadership, describing him as a politician who had consistently shown concern for the welfare and aspirations of his supporters.
