Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party is leading the race in the Osun State governorship election, having recorded the highest number of votes in 19 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs), while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, leads in the remaining 11 LGAs.
The results were announced during the ongoing collation at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre in Osogbo on Sunday morning.
The contest has largely narrowed to Adeleke and Oyebamiji, with the two candidates emerging as the dominant contenders across the state.
Adeleke recorded particularly strong performances in his traditional strongholds. In Ede North where he polled 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283, while in Osogbo, the state capital, Adeleke secured 36,480 votes to the APC candidate’s 30,474.
He also won Ede South, where he recorded 26,188 votes against 6,219 for Oyebamiji.
Oyebamiji, however, also demonstrated strength across parts of the state, securing 11 LGAs, including areas where the APC candidate was able to establish significant margins.
