The Federal Government has warned Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that they could lose access to key government payment and financial management platforms if they obstruct the redeployment of Treasury officers assigned to their institutions.
The directive is contained in a September 4, 2026 circular from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, ordering the immediate reassignment of 43 Treasury officials serving across different MDAs.
Those affected by the exercise include deputy directors, assistant directors and other officers drawn from the Accountant-General of the Federation’s Treasury pool.
According to the circular, signed by the Director of Administration at the OAGF, A.T. Mohammed, the redeployment is aimed at strengthening financial administration and improving the efficiency of government operations.
The OAGF explained that the exercise was being carried out “further to the need to rejig the financial operations across Ministries, Departments and Agencies for improved performance, and to enhance greater efficiency in service delivery.”
The affected officers were instructed to take up their new assignments without delay, with the government stressing that compliance was mandatory.
“It is important to emphasise that this posting instruction takes immediate effect and all handing/taking over processes must be completed on or before Friday, 18th September, 2026,” the circular stated.
The new arrangement is expected to have implications for the responsibilities and system-access privileges of officials handling financial operations on the affected platforms.
The OAGF further stated that any sanctions arising from non-compliance would be enforced under existing Treasury regulations. It specifically cited Federal Treasury Circular Ref. No. HMFBN/MDAs/FEDERAL TREASURY CIRCULAR/01/2023, issued on January 26, 2023.
It also cited Treasury Circular Ref. No. TRO/865/VOL.XVI of November 8, 2023, noting that the later directive strengthened the provisions of the earlier circular.
