The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, following a Court of Appeal ruling upholding the nomination of its candidate, Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola.
The PDP announced the decision in a statement by its Interim National Working Committee National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong.
The party said the Court of Appeal in Abuja also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to include the PDP logo on the ballot for the August 15 election.
However, the PDP said it decided to support Adeleke, who is contesting on the platform of the Accord Party, because its candidate had little time to campaign before the poll.
The party said the decision followed consultations with key stakeholders and Adeleke’s previous membership of the PDP.
“We therefore ask all our members to vote for Governor Adeleke,” the party said.
The PDP also urged its members to participate in the election, protect their votes and ensure that their votes count.
The party accused INEC of bias, alleging that the commission failed to recognise its candidate despite monitoring the primary that produced him.
It also called on voters to reject violence and ensure that the election reflects their wishes.
“Elections must be a true reflection of the people’s wish, freely expressed through the ballot. Anything short of that is robbery and must not be allowed to stand,” the party said.
