Amnesty International Nigeria has called for an urgent investigation into alleged inciting remarks attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi ahead of the Osun State governorship election.

The organisation made the call in a post on its X handle on Saturday, expressing concern over allegations that the senator’s remarks could incite violence.

Amnesty International urged the relevant authorities to conduct a prompt, impartial and thorough investigation into the reported comments and ensure that appropriate action is taken if the allegations are found to constitute a criminal offence.

The organisation stressed that political differences should not be used as a justification for violence.

It also called on members of the public to support its petition, urging the authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

Skyline News reports that Fadahunsi, the senator representing Osun East at the 10th Senate, had directed his All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters to kill any members of the Accord Party they see in Ilesa and environs before the state governorship election.

The state incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, was seeking re-election for another four years. He eventually won, defeating his rivals, including the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who came second in the poll.
