The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of 167,486 candidates who sat for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates over alleged involvement in examination malpractice.
The examination body announced this on Wednesday while releasing the results of the 2026 school-based examination, explaining that the affected results are being withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into reported cases of examination irregularities.
WAEC said the alleged malpractice cases are currently under review and would be examined by the appropriate committee of the council. It noted that decisions reached after the review would determine whether the withheld results would be released or cancelled.
The council reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity and credibility of its examinations, stressing that every reported case would be treated in line with established procedures to ensure fairness to all candidates.
The release of the results comes amid renewed efforts by WAEC to curb examination malpractice through stricter monitoring and enhanced security measures introduced during the 2026 examination.
Candidates whose results have been withheld have been advised to await the outcome of the council’s investigations, while other candidates can access their results through WAEC’s approved result-checking platforms.
