The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has cautioned aviation unions against disrupting flight operations over allegations that domestic airlines have failed to remit Ticket Service Charges (TSC) to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The warning followed a fresh seven-day ultimatum issued by the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), directing airline operators to remit all outstanding five per cent Ticket Service Charges owed to aviation agencies.
The unions said the continued non-remittance of the charges has deprived aviation agencies of funds needed to maintain the nation’s airspace and improve workers’ welfare.
Responding on Monday, AON dismissed the allegations, insisting it has no transactional relationship with the unions on the matter.
The association said the unions had been misinformed and urged them to verify the facts with the appropriate authorities before taking any action that could disrupt flight operations.
AON also noted that domestic airlines are operating under severe financial pressure due to soaring aviation fuel costs and multiple charges.
It cited the International Air Transport Association (IATA) as identifying Nigeria among countries with the highest aviation charges globally.
The association warned that any disruption of airline operations would cause unnecessary hardship for passengers and called on the relevant authorities to ensure scheduled flights are not affected.
