FCT Police Arrest Suspected Kidnap Logistics Supplier, Rescue Abducted Woman
Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a suspected supplier of drugs and logistics to a kidnapping gang linked to the abduction of residents in the Mpape area of Abuja.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists in Abuja. He said the arrest followed the July 8 kidnapping incident at the Yellow House area of Mpape, which prompted an intensive investigation by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
According to him, operatives tracked and arrested the suspect, Umaru Danda, a native of Zamfara State, at Gadabiu village in neighbouring Niger State on July 10. Preliminary investigations identified him as a key supplier of hard drugs, logistics and other materials used by the kidnapping gang.
Sanusi said the suspect subsequently led police operatives to three hideouts used by the gang in Niger State. During the operation, officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, suspected illicit drugs, cash amounting to N250,000, ATM cards, a digital scale, bags and other items believed to be linked to the gang’s activities.
The police commissioner said the suspect had been taken into custody and would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
In a related development, Sanusi said the command rescued a woman who was abducted in the Karshi area of the FCT. He explained that the victim was kidnapped on July 12 after gunmen reportedly fired shots to create panic before taking her away.
He said operatives launched a coordinated search operation across Karshi and adjoining routes leading to Nasarawa State. The efforts led to the victim’s rescue in the early hours of July 16.
According to the police, she was rescued unharmed without the payment of ransom. She also received medical attention and has since been reunited with her family.
