Osun State Police Command has detained the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, alongside five others following a raid on his residence in Osogbo on Wednesday.
The police said the operation was carried out based on intelligence, adding that one of those arrested, Oladele Abiodun, was a suspect on its watchlist.
Officers also recovered ₦4,810,500, two Permanent Voter Cards, a voter register, a Dynabook laptop, a photocopier and a printer from the residence.
Police spokesperson in the state, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the recovered items raised suspicion of possible electoral offences, including alleged vote-buying, criminal conspiracy and harbouring a wanted suspect.
He noted that the exhibits had been taken into custody for forensic examination while investigations continue.
The command stressed that no individual is above the law, regardless of political office or social status, and assured that anyone found culpable at the end of the investigation would be prosecuted in line with the law.
However, the Osun State Government condemned the raid, alleging that police officers invaded the SSG’s residence without a search warrant.
The government also claimed that those found on the premises were arrested during the operation.
