Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump to pay attention to developments surrounding the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
Davido made the appeal in a social media post as political activities intensified ahead of the election, scheduled for Saturday, August 15.
He urged Trump and the international community to monitor the electoral process closely.
The singer expressed concern over the possibility of violence, intimidation and other actions that could undermine the credibility of the poll. He called for a peaceful process in which voters would be allowed to exercise their franchise without fear.
His appeal has generated reactions across social media, with Nigerians divided over the decision to involve the American president in a domestic Nigerian electoral matter.
While some supporters commended Davido for drawing international attention to the exercise, others questioned whether Trump’s involvement could have any direct influence on events in Osun.
The Osun election is expected to attract significant political attention as major parties intensify their campaigns and mobilise supporters across the state.
Davido’s intervention has consequently added a celebrity voice to the growing calls for a peaceful, transparent and credible election.
