The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied reports that he is lobbying to become Director General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike, however, reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re election, saying he does not need a formal role in the campaign council to contribute to the president’s victory in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
Reports had listed Wike among senior party members and government officials allegedly seeking or being considered for the position of Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
But Wike, in a statement issued on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, dismissed the report as false.
The minister said he had not discussed the leadership or membership of the proposed campaign council with anyone.
Wike, currently outside Nigeria and getting some rest after commissioning projects in the FCT, said that upon his return, his priority would remain the delivery of his mandate under the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, while also working to strengthen Tinubu’s electoral prospects in Rivers State and the FCT.
