The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that it is investigating the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Moshood Jimoh, following corruption allegations made by social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the police said AIG Jimoh had been invited for questioning as part of an internal administrative review, while the criminal case linked to the allegations remains before a competent court.
The Force also confirmed that Otse had been invited to provide evidence to support his claims.
According to the statement, the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja formally invited Otse on July 30, 2026, to substantiate the allegations he made publicly.
The police stressed that the investigation reflects its commitment to examining all credible allegations of misconduct through established accountability channels, regardless of the rank of the officer involved.
The police said the criminal matter had already been investigated and was in court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, adding that it would not allow public commentary or social media campaigns to influence judicial proceedings.
It also reiterated that disciplinary actions against officers would follow due process as provided under the Constitution, the Police Act 2020 and other relevant regulations.
The Force urged Otse to honour its invitation and allow both the administrative investigation and court proceedings to take their course.
It maintained that while citizens have the right to demand accountability, anyone found making false allegations to damage the reputation of officers or the institution could face legal consequences.
