Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s biggest political mistake as attempting to build an independent political structure shortly after assuming office in May 2023.

Speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike said the move signaled that Fubara had sidelined the political structure and supporters who helped him into power.

According to Wike, his administration laid a solid foundation for Rivers State’s development through major infrastructure projects, including the Port Harcourt Ring Road and 12 flyovers.

He said his expectation was for Fubara to continue those projects and sustain the drive to position Rivers State alongside Lagos in terms of infrastructure and economic growth.

Wike also claimed that Fubara was influenced by individuals who never supported his emergence as governor.

He alleged that these advisers encouraged the governor to distance himself from his political benefactors and engage in a confrontation that eventually deepened the crisis between them.

The minister dismissed allegations that he demanded money from Fubara, describing the claims as unfounded.

He maintained that his only interest was to see the governor stabilize the state and consolidate on the achievements of the previous administration, adding that political leaders must remain focused and carefully evaluate the advice they receive.
