President Bola Tinubu has stated that the activation of new Nigerian Army formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun states will improve the military’s ability to respond to security challenges.
Tinubu made this known in a statement on Sunday while outlining steps being taken by his administration to enhance the welfare and operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces.
“This week, the Nigerian Army operationalised new formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun. Our troops are now closer to vulnerable communities in these areas, strengthening our ability to respond swiftly and decisively when our people are threatened,” he said.
The President also disclosed that the Federal Government was accelerating the construction of additional military barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi states, while facilities in Osun State had already been completed.
According to Tinubu, the measures were aimed at improving the conditions of military personnel and their families, particularly as the government expects the Armed Forces to take on greater responsibilities.
“As we demand more from our men and women in uniform, we must do more to support them and their families,” he said.
He further noted that the recent salary increase for Armed Forces personnel was already having a positive impact on servicemen, women and their families.
“Over the past few days, servicemen and women of the Armed Forces have shared what the recent pay increase means for them and their families. I am glad it is making a difference,” Tinubu said.
The President also recognised the sacrifices made by military families, stressing that the burden of deployment extends beyond the personnel serving in the field.
He said, “every deployment is a sacrifice made by a family too.”
Tinubu added that, as Commander-in-Chief, he was responsible for ensuring that members of the Armed Forces received the necessary resources, facilities and support to effectively perform their duties.
