The Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has expressed sadness over the death of prominent social media political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu.
In a post on his verified X handle, Kwankwaso called on the Kano State Government to urgently set up an investigative panel to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
He warned that should the authorities fail to take firm and open action, the ‘incoming NDC Government’ would, after assuming office, commence a comprehensive investigation and take every necessary measure to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable.
The former Kano State Governor also appealed to the state and Federal Governments to ensure the safety of opposition voices, stressing that the Nigerian Constitution guarantees citizens the freedom of expression and that this right should protect individuals against threats, attacks and intimidation.
Dan Shagamu was reportedly killed in a brutal attack.
“I’m deeply disturbed by the killing of Dan Shagamu, whose body was found today in a pool of his blood at his home in Kano.
“The Nigerian authorities must ensure a full investigation and that those responsible are held accountable.
“I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends and followers. May Almighty Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen,” he tweeted.
