Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has left the national team’s training camp after holding discussions with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation.
The experienced forward explained that his decision followed a press conference held by the national team coach, although he did not reveal the exact circumstances that prompted his departure.
According to a football transfer expert on Wednesday, Ronaldo was quoted as saying, “After the National Team coach’s press conference, and following a conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the National Team training camp,” Ronaldo said.
The 41-year-old noted that he would disclose more details about his decision at a later time, while reaffirming his long-standing dedication to representing Portugal.
“In due time, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led to my departure from the national team, to which I have always dedicated myself,” he said.
Ronaldo also extended his best wishes to the Portuguese national team and his fellow players following his exit from the camp.
“Now is the time to wish good luck to Portugal and to all my teammates,” he added.
His departure comes as Portugal gets set for its forthcoming international engagements, with the development expected to attract considerable attention ahead of the team’s next matches.
More information about the reasons behind Ronaldo’s decision is expected when the veteran forward makes his promised statement.
