The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to transform the abandoned recreation park at the Life Camp Roundabout into a modern leisure and sporting facility.
The minister said the decision is part of efforts to expand recreational infrastructure across the nation’s capital. He said the project would provide residents with a safe and attractive space for relaxation, exercise and other social activities.
Speaking after inspecting the site on Monday, Wike said the decision was inspired by the success of the remodelled Abuja City Gate, which was commissioned during activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.
The minister lamented the neglect of the Life Camp recreation park by previous administrations, describing its current condition as unfortunate despite its enormous potential.
He said the facility would be redesigned with modern amenities to support recreation, sports and tourism, while directing the Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA) to commence work immediately. He gave the assurance that the project would be treated as an emergency.
Wike also disclosed plans to introduce an annual New Year fireworks display at the Abuja City Gate beginning this year as part of efforts to position Abuja alongside major capital cities around the world.
He expressed confidence that the upgrade of the Life Camp park and other projects would improve residents’ quality of life and further enhance the image of the nation’s capital.
