Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued a kidnapped senior military officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ofor Amobi, and a civilian, Ikechukwu Onwuanra, after a 10-day joint search and rescue operation in Enugu State.
According to a military operational report, the victims were rescued in the early hours of Friday after sustained pressure forced their abductors to abandon them at the edge of a forest in Inyi, Oji River Local Government Area.
The operation involved troops of Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, personnel of the 82 Division Garrison, the 103 Battalion, the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, and the 197 Special Forces Battalion.
The report said the troops launched the rescue mission after receiving intelligence from the Divisional Police Officer of Inyi Division on the whereabouts of the victims.
They carried out intensive searches across forests and surrounding communities before locating the victims.
The military said both men sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately evacuated to the 82 Division Medical Hospital for treatment and medical evaluation.
Preliminary findings showed they had been blindfolded, taken to an unknown location and later abandoned in a forest along the Enugu–Anambra border.
The victims reportedly credited their rescue to the sustained pressure mounted by the joint security team, which restricted the movement of the kidnappers and forced them to flee. The military said further details of the operation would be released later.
