The Osun State Police Command has released the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, following his arrest during a police operation at his residence in Osogbo.
His release was announced on Thursday by the spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, who commended the Inspector General of Police and the Osun State Commissioner of Police for responding to public calls for his release.
The police also confirmed that Igbalaye had been freed.
Igbalaye and five others were arrested on Wednesday after police said they raided his residence based on intelligence linking some occupants to criminal activities.
The command disclosed that one suspect on its watchlist, Oladele Abiodun, was among those arrested.
Police said they recovered N4.81 million, two permanent voter cards, a voters’ register, a laptop, a photocopy machine and a printer during the operation.
The command said the items were being examined as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged electoral and other criminal offences.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, alleged that the SSG’s arrest was politically motivated, claiming it followed an incident at an INEC stakeholders’ meeting.
The police, however, maintained that the operation was intelligence-driven and that investigations into the matter was ongoing..
