The Nigerian Army has announced the appointment of General Officers Commanding (GOCs) for some of its newly created divisions as part of the implementation of the Federal Government’s plan to expand the divisions from eight to 12.
Under the new postings, Major General Yakubu Yahaya has been appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) 9 Division, Ilorin, and Commander of Operation SAVANNA SHIELD. Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife will head the 10 Division in Jalingo, while Major General Moses Gara takes charge of the 5 Division in Makurdi and will also serve as Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE. Major General Auwalu Mahmuda has been appointed GOC 2 Division, Ibadan.
The Army also announced the activation of three new brigades. Brigadier General A.O. Odubiyi will command the 11 Brigade in Gboko, Brigadier General A.M. Haruna will head the 29 Brigade in Kainji, while Brigadier General R.M. Aminu has been appointed Commander of the 10 Brigade in Lafia.
The appointments follow President Bola Tinubu’s approval for the creation of the 5, 9, 10 and 83 Divisions as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s operational capacity and enhance its response to the country’s security challenges.
