Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a soldier declared wanted by the Nigerian Army for allegedly supplying military accoutrements to terrorist groups operating in the North East.
The military in a statement on Sunday identified the soldier as Private Mohammed Yusuf of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Training Facility, Lagos.
He was arrested on July 25 by troops of the 7 Provost Group.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the soldier allegedly absconded from his unit before travelling to Maiduguri on July 7, where he reportedly went into hiding after being declared wanted by the Army.
The investigation also revealed that he was allegedly harboured in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area of Borno State.
Acting on intelligence, troops placed the suspect under surveillance before arresting him at Jidari Bus Stop while he was reportedly attempting to flee to Cameroon.
The suspect is currently in the custody of the 7 Provost Group as investigations continue into allegations that he supplied military accoutrements to terrorist groups and to determine whether other persons were involved.
Military sources described the arrest as a major breakthrough in efforts to dismantle insider networks allegedly supporting terrorist activities, adding that investigations are ongoing.
