Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is set to seek legal redress over an alleged move by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze the accounts of the state government ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15.
The governor, who raised the alarm over the alleged plan, described it as an attempt to undermine the operations of his administration and create political tension ahead of the poll.
Adeleke’s camp alleged that freezing the state’s accounts would disrupt the government’s ability to meet its financial obligations, including the payment of salaries and funding of ongoing projects.
The government vows to approach the court to challenge what it considers an unlawful interference with the finances of the state.
The EFCC has not publicly confirmed the allegation.
The development comes amid heightened political activities in Osun ahead of the governorship poll, with Adeleke and other political actors engaged in campaigns and preparations for the contest.
Adeleke has repeatedly accused unnamed political opponents of attempting to frustrate his administration and derail his re-election bid, while his critics have continued to challenge some of his government’s actions.
