The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed the Presidency’s celebration of a letter reportedly sent by United States President Donald Trump to President Bola Tinubu.
The party said the letter would not influence Nigerians’ assessment of the administration ahead of future elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party described the letter as routine diplomatic correspondence between heads of state, arguing that it should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the Tinubu administration.
The ADC said the government’s emphasis on the letter reflected what it called a search for international validation despite persistent domestic challenges.
It maintained that Nigerians would judge the administration by its performance, particularly in addressing insecurity and improving citizens’ welfare.
The party argued that the reported communication did not alter the country’s security situation, noting that several communities across Nigeria continue to grapple with violent attacks and kidnappings.
It also pointed to the United States travel advisory, which still places parts of Nigeria under Level 3 and Level 4 warnings over security concerns.
According to the ADC, diplomatic exchanges between world leaders cannot replace tangible progress in governance.
The party urged the Federal Government to focus on delivering measurable results, stressing that Nigerians would ultimately evaluate the administration based on its impact on their lives rather than commendations or correspondence from foreign leaders.
