The Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board (KSPVIB) has ordered the temporary closure of nine private schools for failing to meet the requirements for registration revalidation and recertification.
The board’s Executive Secretary, Comrade Baba Abubakar Umar, announced this during a media briefing in Kano, stating that the affected institutions would remain closed for seven days beginning October 12, 2026.
The schools affected are Zayyad Academy, Success International Schools, Sunshine International School, Perfect Schools, Al-Fa’iq International College, Mainasara International School, Shubla Academy, Darul Mu’uminat Comprehensive School and Hanan International School.
Umar disclosed that the board had identified 111 schools suspected of violating established regulatory procedures. He warned that any school that resumed operations without official approval would face legal consequences.
He explained that the enforcement exercise was designed to strengthen oversight of private schools and ensure adherence to approved educational standards.
The executive secretary also cautioned school proprietors against increasing tuition fees without authorisation, compelling parents to purchase uniforms and textbooks exclusively from their institutions, and expelling students without notifying their parents.
He further urged private school operators to renew their operating licences for the 2026/2027 academic session, pointing out that the previous certificates expired on July 31, 2026.
