Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Nigeria A are set to battle for honours at the Nigeria T20 Quadrangular Series, scheduled to hold from September 21 to 27, 2026, at the iconic TBS Cricket Oval in Lagos.
The Nigeria Cricket Federation announced the tournament on Saturday as part of its broader plans to expand and strengthen the country’s cricket calendar.
Nigeria will be represented by two teams in the competition, with the Yellow Greens expected to utilise the series as part of their preparations for forthcoming international assignments.
The Yellow Greens are currently in camp under their new high-performance manager, Stephen Mangongo, who was unveiled in May after agreeing to a three-year contract with the Nigeria Cricket Federation.
Mangongo took over from Kenyan coach Steve Tikolo, who departed the position earlier this year after more than three years at the helm.
The tournament will mark the Zimbabwean’s second assignment with the national side, following Nigeria’s participation in the Namibia Tri-Series in June.
The T20 Quadrangular Series will also provide the Yellow Greens with an opportunity to fine-tune their preparations for the 2028 T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional C Qualifier, which will be hosted in Abuja from October 18 to 25.
Nigeria will face Gambia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Uganda and Zambia in this year’s qualifier, with the six participating nations competing for the two available top positions.
The two teams that finish successfully will progress to next year’s regional final, where qualification spots for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 in Australia and New Zealand will be contested.
At the conclusion of the qualification process, two teams from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2027 will earn direct qualification for the 2028 global tournament.
