Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has threatened to take legal action against the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), following comments he allegedly made about the former governor during a recent television interview.
El-Rufai, through his lawyers, issued a formal letter of claim demanding that the minister withdraw the alleged defamatory statements, tender an unconditional apology and preserve all relevant evidence relating to the broadcast.
The letter, dated September 7, 2026, was issued by the Chambers of Ubong Akpan on behalf of the former governor.
El-Rufai’s legal representatives raised concerns over a number of comments allegedly made during the September 3, 2026 television programme. The remarks reportedly touched on banditry, killings, demolitions, ransom payments and allegations concerning El-Rufai’s actions during his tenure as Kaduna State governor.
The lawyers characterised the comments as defamatory, noting that the broadcast remains available across terrestrial and satellite television as well as online streaming platforms.
The legal team requested that the defence minister and his representatives confirm receipt of the letter within 24 hours and submit a detailed written response to the demands within seven days.
They further stated that El-Rufai retains the option to seek all appropriate legal remedies should the dispute remain unresolved.
